Vores Sted
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Realdania’s “Vores Sted” sets out to establish 150 small-scale meeting places for local communities across Denmark. We joined from the outset as strategic advisors, helping define the project’s scope, brief, and vision ahead of the design phase. Over time, our role evolved into a continuous, adaptive partnership across all stages of the process.
Working closely with Realdania, we shaped and drove the procurement process, aligned ambitions, and guided both technical and material strategies. From supporting full-scale prototyping and developing authority-ready design packages to establishing a reuse strategy sourcing over 60 km of reclaimed timber and 1.000 m3 of rejected wood, the focus has been on creating a scalable and robust framework for implementation.
Now in the build phase, we support coordination across parallel construction processes, contractor onboarding, and municipal dialogue.
Throughout, our role has been to help steer a complex process while maintaining a clear focus: enabling local communities to create and take ownership of shared spaces.
Our role in the process
Pre-qualification
We helped shape the competition format, advised on constructability and scalability, and set robust budget frameworks.
Integrated Design Process
Through an integrated design process, we aligned ambitions between Realdania, design teams and external experts, while evaluating proposals and guiding material strategies.
Prototype
We supported full-scale test builds and prepared a generic authority design-package.
Qualification
We developed a reused material procurement strategy – including sourcing over 60 km of reclaimed timber and 1.000 m3 of rejected wood. We also aided in coordinating partnerships with local entrepreneurs who could help realize each individual structure.
Implementation
With the first meeting places popping up around the country, we are fully in the implementation phase. Our role remains to aid the vision: enabling local communities to create new shared spaces.
The four meeting places
Developed through an interdisciplinary collaboration between multiple design studios, the four typologies are each tailored to different needs and contexts. The Workshop is a practical community hub with space for tools, materials, and creative projects. The Garden Room is a light-filled, transparent structure where the façade brings the outside in. The Nature Base serves as a hub for outdoor activities, with room for gear storage and group gatherings. The Community Canopy is a versatile, covered gathering spot, from everyday use to markets and communal dining.
