Nye Marketenderi takes its name from the building’s former function as a market canteen and gathering place for the area’s industrial workers.

The upper floors of the building are enveloped in solar screening made of perforated corrugated panels, which wrap around the structure like a light drapery. The use of thin metal sheets references both the current material palette of the area and the older industrial buildings, which were often constructed from sheet metal and steel plates. In front of the windows, the corrugated panels are mounted on movable, foldable shutters that function both as solar shading and add liveliness and variation to the façade. From the inside, the panels appear as soft curtains filtering the light in an elegant way. The perforated panels provide effective sun protection, making it possible to maintain large window sections without solar film while ensuring a comfortable indoor climate.

Due to the facades’ light-reflecting capacity, daylight will be drawn into the passage of Den Røde By (The Red City). Deep wooden window frames creates a warm contrast to the raw concrete and external aluminium draping. On the ground floor, the concrete is rifled to create a tactile surface and sensuous experience, while the high-ceilinged ground floor allows a visual and physical connection between the passages and urban life.

The building is a rational structure, built in concrete and CLT, and serves as the headquarters of Kopenhagen Konsulting. It is certified to the DGNB Gold standard.
